I agree this is probably not necessary anymore. However, lets take this one bug at a time, since any changes that happen to the patch in bug 1114816 are likely to affect this patch non-trivially.

There are a number of broken sites that now I can't browse with Firefox. See bug 1166348.

Previously I was able to use this hidden setting and browse this sites with FF. Now I'm forced to use another browser (Chromium for example)
