Important Announcement: Temporary Rollback to Kitsune Tomorrow

    Hi everybody,

Unfortunately after a lot of back and forth we will need to temporarily roll back to Kitsune. Although we were making a lot of progress on the redirects issue, they could not be successfully completed before the FF 53 launch. Please also see the initial discussion about this here.

    When will this happen?

We’re looking at rolling back tomorrow at 7AM Pacific.

    How will users be affected?

Questions will not be moved over, so any question that was posted in the last few weeks will not be visible on Kitsune. We’ve turned off new questions on Lithium.

Will I still be able to access Lithium?

Lithium will still be up and should be accessible through a different URL (possibly password protected). We are not going to do any migration, just temporarily point support.mozilla.org back to Kitsune.

    How long will this last?

The temporary switch should last until we can get all redirects up and running either through the short-term fix or the permanent fix delivered by Lithium.

Are we going back to Kitsune full time?

We are not be going back to Kitsune, just rolling back temporarily to address a user experience issue until we have a working and tested solution to it in place. Since we do not have any dedicated developer resources for SUMO at Mozilla, we are going forward with a 3rd party solution - Lithium.

  3. I asked in the in the original thread if we may consider staying on Kitsune for a little while whilst we test and fix some of the outstanding issues.

I also note and commented on the fact that the in product help link is 404 at the moment https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1357563#c1 .

  4. Hi John:

Is there a bug about "Lithium not working on Android smartphones"? If so please post a link, if not, please file a bug (or tell me the problem and I will file a bug)

    Cheers and thanks! ...Roland

  5. Hi Roland, I probably made some comments but did not file a bug other then NI you about whether an Android Component for sumo-lithium make sense https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1341574

I still am not sure how we are tracking and dealing with bugs if we are moving towards keeping magic spreadsheets and using Lithium Cases that we do not see it makes me think filing bugs on bugzilla may become more of an annoyance to those doing the work than a useful exercise.

There are so many issues with Lithium I was trying to file what I thought the more important bugs first. Happy to file bugs relating to Android and Search issues but of course it is easier to test and file bugs when we have access to Lithium.

Have we set it up on stage again ? and if so can we test it as users with different permissions or will it be a case of only unsigned in user or Admin ?

I imagine right now is not the best time to be filing new bugs as you will all be overworked anyway because of the redirects issue and planning the migration back to Lithium.

  6. I also posted about this in the Social Support forums, however I will also post it here: Please DO NOT use Army of Awesome to answer questions while we are in Kitsune.

  8. What I miss from here are tabs you can see without having to open a post. I also miss System Details that showed this user was using an old version of Flash https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1156985#answer-960865

Without the details, we would not know of this user's other problem.

  9. Mods please note there is info in the Kitsune Mods forum, since yesterday, relating to read only access of Sumo Lithium data - Thanks to Happy112 for the details.

    Happy Days

Pity I can not seem to find a user friendly page of KB articles, but if you do find a KB help article it should display the correct information, something that is not guaranteed in Lithium.

We also have good contributor facing documentation again. For instance details & explanations of how to write, edit, review and approve KB articles. Something that was not provided in Lithium Sumo even though we as contributors should have been needing and able to complete such tasks for the last few months. Of course I doubt we should use those facilities as the documents presumably would not migrate back to Lithium

Kitsune also has better Contributor dashboards, it groups support questions properly, and makes it easy to track those needing attention.

And for those struggling recently with redirects

See for instance this as a sample of a Kitsune listing: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/get-started-firefox-overview-main-features/show_translations

An example of an articles language agnostic link

Get started with Firefox - An overview of the main features

That link was found, formatted and entered directly from within this Post Reply box with only a few mouse clicks and typing the words get started

Internal search even works. It will accept an unusual word like Firef'ox without trying to instead search for what it thinks is a more sensible Firebox, and it will search for a string or do a boolean search. It will search within contributor forums without drowning results with support question answers. It will search within a sane time period, or a product etc.

  13. I suspect there is no chance of us staying on Kitsune.

However let's hope that in addition to the redirect issue being fixed some of the other shortcomings are recognised and addressed sooner rather than later.

A New in Thunderbird 52 article was written in Lithium, and it would be great to copy it over to Kitsune. It'll let us translate it decently, and it also automatically opens when Thunderbird updates to v52.

Also, Firefox 53 and 54 need to be added to the version picker :)

  17. SUMO on Lithium is a dead duck. The issues have already begun when I couldn't take my login information along, I had to create a new user name. And, what is worse, Sorbian articles were not migrated to Lithium so I could not translate or edit articles. Since then months are passed and it is still uncertain if Sorbian articles will ever be on Lithium .

I have so had it with all these fellow contribs complaining and moaning about Lithium, and how they want Kitsune back for good. Granted, they may have implemented Lithium way too soon,   we encountered some problems,  but they're working on it. We all had to let off steam,   but enough's enough   -   stop complaining, folks and lighten up   !!! The glass is not half empty   -   it's half full   !

And to those who keep on whining :     !!!!! ▲▲▲▲▲▲▲  !!!!!
    Now :     Smile   !!!

  19. Hey Happy112, Maybe you could try to take other views in to account.

You use Sumo to post answers to support questions, but have you thought about contributors that edit KB articles or who localise KB articles ?

Personally I see quite a few issues in Lithium as a contributor answering support questions. I also see other serious issues with Lithium and think that the KB side of Lithium is badly messed up. I do not Localise for Sumo but my understanding is that L10n is totally messed up and anyone doing L10n work is quite right to point out that Lithium is a disaster and not a smiling matter!

You may be interested in Sumo in other locales not just en-US. I wonder what the opinion of Sumo migrating to Lithium is in other Mozilla locales? I doubt we see such opinion ourselves but I expect it is unfavourable.

Hi   John, I've done my share of complaining and moaning   -   merely trying to cheer everybody up and get them to smile   ....... We can complain and moan all we want, but it's not going to change anything, is it   ?
