Email notifications and inbox sync

This article only applies to Firefox OS 1.2 and higher.

You can set up Firefox OS to check your email account for new messages at regular intervals. You can also set up notifications so you're aware of incoming emails.

Don't have an email account yet? Set up a new account before following the steps below.

Set up email notifications

  1. Launch the Email app and tap on the menu button on the upper left corner of the screen.

  2. Tap on the gear icon Gray FxOS settings gear on the bottom left corner of the screen to open the Mail Settings.
  3. Tap on the email account that you want to set your preferences for.
  4. To set up email notifications, tap the button next to Display notifications for new messages to toggle it on.

  5. Tap the arrow on the top left of the screen to finish. Your preferences will save automatically.

  2. Tap on the menu button email menu 2.0 on the upper left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap on the gear icon Settings 1.3Settings 1.4Settings- 2.0 (small) on the bottom of the screen to get to the Mail Settings page.
  4. Tap on the email account that you want to set your preferences for.
  5. To set up email notifications, tap the button for Display notifications for new messages to turn it on fos enabled.
  6. Tap the arrow on the top left of the screen to finish. Your preferences will save automatically.

Set up Firefox OS to automatically check for new emails

To set up how often you want Firefox OS to check for new email messages, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Email app and tap on the menu button on the upper left corner of the screen.

  2. Tap on the gear icon Gray FxOS settings gear at the bottom left corner of the screen to open the Mail Settings.
  3. Tap on the email account for which you want to set your preferences.
  4. Tap on the drop down under Check for new messages, and choose your preferred intervals, then tap OK.

  3. Tap on the gear icon Settings 1.3Settings 1.4Settings- 2.0 (small) at the bottom of the screen to get to the Mail Settings page.
  4. Tap on the email account for which you want to set your preferences.
  5. Tap on the drop down under Check for new messages, and choose your preferred intervals (manually or every 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes), then tap OK.
If you don't want Firefox OS to check your emails automatically (for example, if you don't want to use too much data or battery power), set this to Manual instead.

In a hurry to check your emails? You can force Firefox OS to check for emails any time you want: Just tap the sync icon sync email 2.0 at the bottom of the Inbox screen to load new emails immediately.
