The Firefox OS Contacts app makes it easy to connect with your favorite people. Learn how to add, manage and share contact information. You can even add contacts directly from Facebook and popular email services. Let's get started!

How does the Contacts app work?

The Contacts app lets you contact your friends through any of the following options:

  • Phone
  • Email
  • Message
Tip: Make a contact a "Favorite" and it will be shown at the top of your contacts list.

Add contacts manually

Here's how to add contacts the old-fashioned way:

  1. Tap the plus button next to settings to get to the Add contact screen.

  2. Enter a name, number, photo, etc.
  3. To save your new contact, tap the Done button on the top right.

Import contacts

If you already have contacts on your SIM Card, SD Card or Gmail, Outlook (and Hotmail) and Facebook accounts, Firefox OS saves you time by allowing you to import them.

Import from Sim Card or Memory Card

  1. Open the Contacts contacts app application.
  2. Tap on the Gray FxOS settings gear gear icon.
  3. Tap to import from Sim Card or Memory Card.

  4. Tap on the Select all button or select the contacts you would like to import.
  5. Tap on Import at the top right corner.
  6. Wait until the contacts have been imported to your device.
Tip: There are third-party apps that allow you to import from vCard files on your SD card. See the Marketplace .

Import from Gmail, Outlook or Facebook

  1. Open the Contacts contacts app application.
  2. Tap on the Gray FxOS settings gear gear icon.
  3. Tap to import from Gmail or Outlook or Facebook.

  4. Sign in as prompted.
  5. Tap the Select all button or select the contacts you would like to import.
  6. Tap Import at the top right corner.

  7. Wait until the contacts have been imported to your device.

Linking a contact to Facebook gives you additional options through the Contacts app.

  • Send them a Facebook message
  • Post to their Facebook Wall
  • View their Facebook profile

Import from Sim Card or Memory Card

Import from Sim Card

If your phone holds multiple SIM cards, you can even import from both of them.

  1. Open the Contacts contacts appcontacts 2.0 application.

  3. Tap Import Contacts.
  4. Tap to import from Sim Card

  6. Tap Import in the top right corner.

Import from Phone Memory or Memory Card

You can import contacts stored in a vCard file (Version 3.0).

Tip: A handy tool for maintaining vCards using an Excel-Sheet is VCard-Grid. VCard-Grid is a third-party program. If you are having problems using VCard-Grid, contact its developer.
  1. Store the .vcf file in your Phone Memory (internal card) or on your Memory Card (SD card)
  2. Open the Contacts contacts appcontacts 2.0 application.
  3. Tap the Gray FxOS settings geargear 2.0 gear icon.
  4. Tap Import Contacts.
  5. Tap to import from Internal card or SD Card.

Import from Gmail or Outlook

  1. Open the Contacts contacts appcontacts 2.0 application.

  3. Tap Import Contacts.
  4. Tap to import from Gmail or Outlook.

Import from Facebook

  1. Open the Contacts contacts appcontacts 2.0 application.
  2. Tap the Gray FxOS settings geargear 2.0 gear icon.
  3. Tap to the button next to Sync friends.

  4. Sign in to Facebook as prompted.
  5. Select the contacts you would like to import or tap Select All to import all your contacts.
  6. Tap Import in the top right corner to start the import process.

Linking a contact to Facebook gives you additional options through the Contacts app.

  • Send them a Facebook message
  • Post to their Facebook Wall
  • View their Facebook profile

Importing a friend to your Contacts from Facebook will automatically link their profiles, but you can also do it manually:

  1. Select the contact you want to link.
  2. Tap the Link contact button.
  3. A list of possible Facebook friend matches will be displayed. Just tap on the correct one and it will be linked.

Add a contact from another Firefox OS app

Add contacts directly from the Messages, Email and Phone apps. You can choose to add that contact information from each app to an existing contact or create a brand new contact.

  • In the Messages app, tap on the message to open it. Tap on the phone number at the top of the screen and choose whether to create a new contact or add that number to an existing contact.
  • In the Email app, open a message and tap on the email address that you want to add. Choose whether to create a new contact or add that email address to an existing contact.
  • In the Phone app, tap a number in the call log to see your choices for adding that number to an existing contact or creating a new contact.

Note: This feature is available in Firefox OS version 1.1 and higher. Not sure what version of Firefox OS you have? Here's how to find out.

Delete a contact

  1. Tap the contact you want to delete.
  2. Tap the edit contact button in the upper-right edit contactedit contact 2.0
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, tap Delete Contact and then Remove.

Export your contacts to other devices

Transfer your contacts to other devices by exporting them to your SIM card, memory card or through bluetooth.

  1. Open the Contacts app, then tap the Settings gear icon on the top right corner to see the Settings screen below.

  2. Choose the method you want to export your contacts through: SIM card, memory card or bluetooth. If you choose bluetooth, you will need to choose the device you want to transfer to on the next screen.
  3. The screen will show the contacts you currently have on your phone. Tap the box next to each contact you want to transfer, or tap Select all to transfer all of them.
  4. Tap Export on the top right corner of the screen when you've chosen all your contacts.

A message will show you the progress. When the export is complete, you may close the app.
